Once a check engine light comes on it should store a code. They should be able to retrieve this code with a scan tool. If the light is staying on, then they definitly should get a code.
You should take it to a dealer that can show you a scan tool connected to the vehicle and prove that there are no codes. This won't be possible if the light is staying on. You cannot turn this light off yourself, you need a scan tool to cancel the codes.
Just make sure that you and the dealer are talking about the same light. Sometimes people confuse their "Check Engine" light with their "Service" light. These can have two very different meanings.

The check engine light does not come on for no reason. Something is happening to trigger the light.
Even if you turn it off, it will come back on because something is wrong.
Did they scan your car's computer for a code?
You might want to take it to another Audi Specialist to have a second opinion.
Best of Luck,
